Give the people what they want.
We're so glad you're joining us today.
I'm going to start a little bit slow so that I can make sure people have a chance to log in for our presentation. We don't want to get into any of the.
Really important things we're going to cover until everybody is here, so I will just start with a quick introduction. I'm Erica Mills. I work here in the Office of Admissions at Bowling Green State University. I am reporting to you live from campus and I'm so excited that you are kicking off our three day Presidents Day weekend. This is the first of over 40 sessions that we're hosting in the next three days, and we're so glad you're here. Truly, we've been putting so much time and.

09:00:58 AM
Good Morning!
Energy into these events and the whole time we've had you in mind, trying to make sure that we're giving you the information that you need and an allowing you to connect with us from a distance. So again, thank you for joining us. I'm going to go ahead and get us started this morning. Provide a little bit of information about what this event will be like, and then I'm going to turn it over to my host who is either to my right or left Sarah, who will take it away with our presentation this morning so.
Sydney Klingshirn
09:01:41 AM
Good morning!
On the left side of your screen you should see a chat area. Looks like Kirsten is here an excited as well. Good morning Kirsten. So you can use that chat all throughout this presentation to let us know if you have questions to connect with the other students who are here to ask us to go back and talk about something a second time. If you missed it or need a little more information. This event is all about you. We do not want you to leave without getting all of the answers that you're looking for, so make sure you're taking advantage using that chat feature.
David Johnston
09:02:00 AM
Hi everyone! My name is David Johnston and I work in the Office of Admissions with Erica and Sarah! Happy to help moderate the chat with you this morning :)
I'm going to be joined in the chat with my friend and colleague David, who will also be helping to answer questions. We're also going to do a live Q&A after Sarah's presentation, so if there's a question that we think might be best answered on camera, I might hold it until the end and then Sarah and I will talk through that with you live, so we'll let you know. But whether we answered in the chat or you will answer it on camera, we will definitely answer your questions. And if you stump us, which you'll get 10 points, 10 BG points, if you stump us, we will connect you with the right person who can get you the information you're looking for, so.
Before Sarah gets started, want to make sure that you're comfortable using the chat. We also want to know who's here, so go ahead and introduce yourselves using the chat feature. I want to know your name, your hometown, your dream job, and the best thing that you have watched on Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, HBO Max whatever you're watching. I want to know the best thing that you've watched in the past couple of weeks, so I'll start. I'm Erica. I live in Bowling Green, OH, I this sounds so cheesy, but I am truly working in my dream job in the Office of Admissions at BGSU.

Alright guys, I'm going to head off of camera, head into the chat and then I'll be back at the end after serious presentation. Do that live Q&A. Alright, so you take it away.

And make sure you all are on top of what you need to be doing. So first and foremost setting up your BGSU email in my BGSU account. When you are admitted to BGSU, you receive, of course, an email, a text message, a letter in the Mail. But if you circle back to that email or that letter in the Mail, you're going to be provided your BGSU student ID number. OK, this ID number is unique to you. You will learn to love it. You will probably have it memorized, maybe before you even have your Social Security number memorized.
Madeline Christmas
09:05:21 AM
Madeline, Mason OH. My dream job is being an author. One of the best things I've watched is Demon Slayer on Netflix
You will use it frequently as a BGSU student and so you use that BGSU ID to create what is called your my BGSU account. This is your online portal with us at the University. You will of course use it as an incoming student to go through the housing and meal plan process to sign up for summer orientation. To view your financial aid, but you will also then use it as a current BGSU student. Of course for your classes for.
Erica Mills
09:05:37 AM
@Madeline - my husband has been watching Demon Slayer and loves it!
Erica Mills
09:05:43 AM

Hello, I'm Zane Wallace. I'm from Milford, Delaware. My dream job is to be a forensic chemist. The best thing I've watched recently is Cobra Kai.
Looking for campus jobs? I mean everything runs through this site, so the sooner you get it up the better. And when you create your my BGSU account you are simultaneously creating your BGSU email. OK, so it's important to know. So your BGSU email is simplyyourmybgsuusername@bgsu.edu are BGSU emails. They simply run through outlook so you can just sync up your BGSU email of course to your phone you can get your BGSU.
Kirsten Swander
09:06:02 AM
Good Morning everyone! My name is Kirsten and I am from Van Wert Ohio. My dream job is to be a forensic pathologist, and my current obsession is the show how to get away with murder.
Bryce Carter
09:06:03 AM
Hi, I'm Bryce Carter and i'm from Botkins, Ohio. My dream job is to be a physical therapist, and the best thing ive recently watched watched is The umbrella academy!
Allison Bayer
09:06:04 AM
Im Allison. Im from North Ridgeville, Oh (near Cleveland). Not too sure what my dream job is right now lol, and I love wathing Greys Anatomy!
Email through your my BG issue account or simply through the BGSU homepage so getting familiar with that BG issue email and starting to check that account is a good thing. You can tell in the office admissions we send a lot of things to your personal email and we copy your parents, but as you get closer and closer to enrolling and being a full BGSU student offices like Residence, Life and Orientation, your academic advisor, they're reaching out to via your BGSU.
Email OK, it's a secure email. They know it's you, so get familiar with checking that, so just keep that in mind. Start start checking that and again get comfort with it over these next few weeks.
Erica Mills
09:06:46 AM
Allison - I get it! Don't worry - did you know about 20% of Freshmen come to BGSU without a major declared?! It's definitely ok to come to BG while you're still figuring out.
Another piece that runs through my BGSU account is a little something called access BGSU. What this is is. It allows you as a student to grant access to specific people. Whoever you choose so they can see things like grades, your bill, your financial aid and any holds. Or to do items that you might have. So for example, if you want Mom, dad, grandma, Grandpa, Guardian, whoever to have access to your financial aid and have access to your bill, you need to go to your my BGSU account.
Erica Mills
09:07:42 AM
A lot of the steps Sarah is talking about will take place at http://my.bgsu.edu
And share your information and delegate access to them. You can follow the instructions we have right here on the screen. Of course. Snap a photo whenever you need to have this, but we want to make sure you all are aware that this is a really important step. If you want Mom and Dad to be able to talk to financial aid or to talk to the Office of the Bursar who overseas your bill on your behalf, they have to have done this. So that's really, really really important. So just know that that's another really key piece that runs through your my BGSU account.
Erica Mills
09:08:05 AM
Once you're admitted to BGSU, the first thing you'll want to do is create your account at that site (even if you're still deciding!)
Erica Mills
09:08:17 AM
http://bgsu.edu/commit !!!
Alright, so those are couple logistical things. Let's talk about something a little fun. When you are ready to take your next step and commit. If BGSU is the right fit. If you are excited and ready to go, this is how you do it. OK, I don't know if I'm being dropped it yet, but Erica or David. Can you pop that commit link in the chat? For me this is a really great site to easily go to. That's going to walk you through your commitment steps. OK, and so really, really important when you're ready to commit to BGSU.
If you are planning to live on campus with us there first thing that you can do is pay your $200 initial housing payment right through your my BGSU account. OK, right? When you log into your my BGSU account you're going to see a housing and residence life tile right on the main page and write in there. It'll say housing and meal plan application. You click on that and it'll go ahead and get you started and you can make that too under housing payment and this is your first step in committing to BGSU.
Abdulmateen Adegboye
09:08:59 AM
Good afternoon everyone, my name is Abdulmateen, my dream job is Neuro surgeon and I love watching Grey Anatomy
Olivia Zale
09:09:16 AM
What if you don't know if you will be living on campus or not?
OK, once you make that 200 housing payment you will then be able to list emergency Contacts. It will ask you some basic medical questions and information. Make sure we have that on file for you. You will then be able to choose your meal plan level so all you need to do is choose if you want bronze, silver or gold. Depend on your eating habits. We do have a dining assistant survey you can use. You'll choose that meal plan level and then you can start connecting with potential roommates. So we have a roommate matching.
A system built into our my BGSU account built into that housing application. You could also potentially find some future roommates on our BGSU class of 2025 Facebook group and I know you won't be sitting there thinking Sarah. I'm not on Facebook anymore. What's going on with that? I deleted that account an eon ago. Stick with me. It's the best way that we have to create. Kind of a secure, safe group for incoming fall 21 students so you can introduce yourselves.
Erica Mills
09:09:58 AM
Olivia - that's a good question. Do you live within 50 miles of BGSU?
Post pictures and truly a lot of folks find their future roommates right through this Facebook group. So just know that that's one of the pieces to it. OK, so then from there you're able to again. You're able to pair up with a roommate if you'd like within the housing system, whether it's a friend that you know somebody find on line, whatever you're able to connect, and former roommate selection group right through your housing application and then room selection itself will take place June 7th through the 10th, OK.
Erica Mills
09:10:27 AM
Here's the Facebook page Sarah just mentioned >>> https://www.facebook.com/groups/709540823186497/
Olivia Zale
09:10:32 AM
yes
So what's going to happen is everybody that makes their 200 initial housing payment prior to June 1st, then starting the late afternoon of June 2nd, you will receive your randomly assigned room selection date and time slot. As you can tell, it will be sometime between June 7th and 10th and that is when you'll be able to log in and pick your room is during that room selection time slot and you'll see noted down here the Office of Residence Life is hosting webinars. They are doing like four or five of them all throughout just this weekend.
Erica Mills
09:11:27 AM
@Olivia - You have time, don't worry. We recommend you make a decision about whether you'll live on campus by May. That way, you'll be in the selection process that happens in June.
And they're going to be doing them on a weekly basis for the coming weeks as well, so I know that I'm giving you a quick snapshot into housing because we want to cover. Of course, a few different next steps if you want to really dig into housing, really understand the housing system. Really understand roommate selection groups and things like that, please please, please attend one of our residents life session. So know that we have again plenty of those coming for you. We know how important this is and you want to know the in's and outs of what to expect. So just know that.
We've got your back with that.
David Johnston
09:11:42 AM
Here are the Res Life sessions happening this weekend! https://admissions.bgsu.edu/portal/vpd_res_life
Alright, so like I said when it comes to finding a roommate, there's the lifestyle questionnaire there is that Facebook group, Erica, thank you for posting that in the chat. Fantastic, but I also want to take a moment to say that if you don't pay for the room ahead of time that is OK. About 40% of incoming students do not pair up with roommate ahead of time. They simply go into the housing selection process. They choose their room, they choose the bed. That's right for them and kind of go random. See who ends up picking at other bed. You know, kind of going around like that so you do not have to pair up with roommate ahead of time.
When I came to BGSU I went random. I actually ended up in a room with five other girls who had all knew each other. They were like from the same area and I was like the Super random roommate right? Like I was the one that filled in that six spot. Basically that's a Shark Tank in girl world. OK, I could have gotten chewed up and spit back out. However, we are still really good friends. To this day I. So I just want you to know that you can have a success story. I know it's crazy and and can be scary to kind of dive into the unknown.
Madison Schroer
09:12:51 AM
How do you accept a Roommate Selection Group request?
But you know, sometimes that risk comes with their reward. You know two of the girls that I roomed with. You know, we've done in each other's weddings. We still get together to this day and so just know that it's alright to go. It's OK to go random, it could end up OK too. So there's a little bit of that.
Erica Mills
09:13:13 AM
Madison - good question! Sarah and I will talk about this during the Live Q&A. Stay tuned
When it comes to picking a room, like I said, most of the class will pick June 7th to June 10th. Students who enroll in learning communities will actually picking their rooms in late may OK, so just as kind of a little quick piece to the timeline. So what is a learning community elearning community is a way for students to live with someone that you have similar interest with. OK, that could be the same major. For example, there is a learning community for aviation students. There's one for business students and again, it could just be somebody you have a similar interest.
Abdulmateen Adegboye
09:13:26 AM
My parent will like to know if there is monthly payment plan
Abdulmateen Adegboye
09:13:27 AM
Is there payment plan for on campus housing too
David Johnston
09:13:48 AM
https://www.bgsu.edu/learning-and-theme-communities.html
Or two, there's one for students who like to do community service. There's one for students who like art, you know. So there's quite a few options we've got about, like 18 different learning communities. There's plenty to pick from, and so just know that that's absolutely an option that you have if you want to enroll in a learning community. It is completely an option Eric or David, if you could just pop the link to the Learning Community site. If you maybe haven't already perfect on it, David, thank you if you head to that website, you will be able to see all the different learning communities that we have.
You can apply to be part of the learning community directly through that site. Drink without link that David just posted on there, so just know that that's an option. Of course there's perks, or sometimes travel opportunities. These are built-in study buddies. Think of it as almost like joining a student organization from the moment you move in on campus. OK, like you're already going to be apart of something you were already going to be part of this group. It can really help ease that transition from high school to college, so if that's something that sounds interesting to you, just know that.
Absolutely an option that you have.
David Johnston
09:14:53 AM
We're hosting a Learning Community Information Session on Monday! You can register here: https://admissions.bgsu.edu/register/vpd_lc
Then like I mentioned another commitment step that you will take with us is sign up for new student orientation. We call it sore. It stands for Student orientation, advising and registration. You can so the ability to register for sword just opened at the start of this month and you of course again can do that all the way through June 1st. But orientation is your way to of course you know meet and connect with new classmates will be able to make those final arrangements for financial aid and your fall bill, you know, really hear from those key players.
Erica Mills
09:15:14 AM
@abdulmateen - There are some payment plan options, which you'll be able to arrange through our Office of the Bursar over the summer. I'd recommend you attend one of our Financial Events this weekend to learn more. You can register here, if you haven't already - https://admissions.bgsu.edu/portal/vpd_sfa
Erica Mills
09:15:33 AM
CHECK*THAT*BGSU*EMAIL!!
Pick up your official BG ID. You know better understand campus and start. You know, seeing where your classes are going to be in things like that. So as your sore date draws near, you will have a life design coach as well as an academic advisor who reaches out to you to your BGSU email to help you put your class schedule together. So just keep an eye on that. You'll be able to start building your class schedule here over the summer and for additional information of course you can see the link down there at the bottom.
And so just know that that will be kind of one of those final pieces to the puzzle that really helps you. Again, make that transition to college helps you get ready for August Bill Time in August, move in.
Erica Mills
09:15:49 AM
/\/\/\ Important tip from Sarah!
Alright, financial aid. So if you have not yet filed the fasfa, please go to student aid Gov as soon as possible. You can absolutely still file that fasfa. OK, we're going to start sending out our official aid offers at the end of this month. OK, so you'll be able to view your aid offer within your my BGSU account. You'll also get an aid offer sent you in the Mail. And again, we are of course hosting a ton of webinars through from financial aid. Not only this weekend, but all throughout this spring.
Erica Mills
09:16:25 AM
Here's the link to register for Financial Aid Sessions this weekend - https://admissions.bgsu.edu/portal/vpd_sfa
Abdulmateen Adegboye
09:16:30 AM
@ Erica, thanks
So being able to understand your aid offer understand the difference between cost and value, because those are two very different things. You know, understanding what steps you need to take with your aid. Those are all really, really important pieces and they take of course more than the you know 30 minutes we have together this morning you know to cover, as of course I'm covering numerous things, so please join us for these financial aid webinars. That's what they're there for. They are here to help you. We know it's confusing. We know getting that fast profiled in the 1st place can be confusing, and so then knowing what happens.
After can be tricky as well, so again, join us and know that those eight offers are coming to you at the end of this month, so continue just to keep an eye on your email as well as your mailbox. We will let you know as soon as they are ready.
Erica Mills
09:17:27 AM
Happy to help!
Alright, and so now that you want to think about this yet. But the bill for Fall 2021 will be available online just around July 1st, and then typically do on August 1st, so you'll get that information and that aid offer that you received in under the month is going to of course give you a very good picture of what to expect in terms of your cost for BGSU. OK, but the formal bill will be released July 1 due August one. We do have installment payment plans available that you'll be able to sign up for if you want to be able to.
That fall bill into monthly chunks, things like that to make it more manageable. And of course we've got our office of the bursar who is here to help you and support you as you work to finalize those fall bill plans.

IT'S QUESTION TIME!! Send them our way!!
Alright, and that's it. Like I said, five bullet points, not bad, right? This is meant to be kind of short quick. You know, we've got your back. I want to make sure you know what to do. We know you've got 1000 other webinars you signed up for this weekend, which we love to see. So I just want to invite you of course, to be able to stay in touch. That is the email for us in the Office of Admissions. Please feel free to call email you know, like your haircut mentioned previously. If for any reason you were to stump us and admissions, we know who the experts are, we can get you in touch with the right office. And sometimes that's the biggest challenge of them all. And so.
Just stay in touch with us. There is no such thing as a silly question as too small of a question. This is what we're here for. So before of course, we part ways. Today I'll invite Erica back on in case there's any Q&A for us this morning.
Hi Sarah, I am continually impresses here. Is able to get you all such great information in such a short amount of time. Seriously, so now is Question Time I have jotted down a couple that came in through the chat so we'll tackle those first. But if you have any additional questions just about next steps or really anything BGSU related, drop them in the chat and we will talk about them here on camera for you. Alright so one of our guests this morning I've scrolled back and see who was. I think it was. Yeah it was a livia.
Olivia asked, um, you know, whatever not ready to commit. What if I'm not ready, you know, I think she's specifically. She's within commuting distance, so she's still deciding whether she's going to live on campus or commute. But just in general, I mean, for Olivia's experience specifically, but also for a student who's not sure you know what. When should they be ready to commit by, you know, is it OK that they're not ready today to commit? What would you say for a student like that?
That's a really good question, Olivia. I'm glad that you asked that and Erica. Thanks for sharing. So my message to every single one of you is commit when you are ready. This is a big step, right? These are the next four years of your life, which is crazy to think about. You know you are of course trying to wrap up this senior year. Stay on top of your classes, you know, keep in touch with all the things you need to be doing and all of that an all at the same time you're trying to decide what to do the next four years of your life where you want to do it, what you want to major in.
Charlize Mescher-Foreman
09:20:30 AM
How do we tell BG our preferences of buildings for housing?
Lot that's coming into play and so I want you to know. Commit when you are ready. So for students again we're living on campus. So let me start here. You have all the way until June 1st to commit to BGSU and you will be a part of the same time and room selection process as the students who started paying on February 1. OK so June 1 is the big date you need to make that housing payment by. If you want to be able to pick your room with the rest, the incoming class on June 7th to June 10th, the room selection time slots are randomly assigned.
Erica Mills
09:20:53 AM
Charlize - great question! We'll answer in a minute. :)
Maciah Houpe
09:20:57 AM
Is there somewhere the presentation will be posted to refer back to
So again, there is no preference given to how early you make your housing payment. We want this commitment step to be taken seriously and we want it to be right for you. OK, so that's why I keep saying like do it when you are ready now for folks who are of course looking to commit or excuse me, commute, commute, commute for folks who are planning to commute to BGSU. If you live within that 50 mile radius of Bowling Green and you're planning to commute to BGSU, your biggest next step, your main next step.
Erica Mills
09:21:20 AM
Maciah - yes!! We're going to be adding recordings of the presentations to bgsu.edu/presidentsday They should all be up and ready for you to watch by Tuesday!
Is signing up for orientation? That is what tells us you have committed to BGSU and so just know that that is your main next steps. You don't have to do anything in terms of housing a meal plan. If you are commuting, you kind of skip that step. It doesn't quite apply to you, but your main next step is being able to sign up for orientation, so that's kind of what you worry about and then again, for my computers or anybody who's bringing a card to campus, you'll be able to purchase your parking pass over the summer, so that will of course get all squared away before you join us as well.
Chloe Freeman
09:21:41 AM
If I wanted to Join the ECCO learning community, do I have to live in the dorm hall that houses that community?
Alright, I'm multitasking so I had to unmute myself there. Great great information Sarah. I think you know it's it's really your own unique journey an whether we're talking about housing or living on campus or majors or committing. It's really easy to see what everybody else is doing an feel like Oh my gosh, they're on this timeline. I should be on that timeline too. And that is not the case. You should do this at your own pace if you're ready to commit right now.
David Johnston
09:22:13 AM
@Chloe, for ECCO, you DO NOT have to live in the dorm hall that houses the community
Great if you're not going to be ready until May. Also totally fine, so just keep that in mind. Alright. Next question I. I'm hoping Sir that you know the answer to this 'cause I do not.
Disclosure so if they have been invited into an RSG, which is the room roommate selection group, how do they accept that? And maybe, maybe, just like a brief? What is the RSG while I will also tell everybody the residence life information session will will be hosted by people from residence life who can give you really good information about that.
Chloe Freeman

@ David, Thank you!
I like how we both in like resins live session. It's really good. It's really thorough but no. So we'll start here with what is in our SG that stands for Roommate Selection Group and the more accurate we joke kind of more accurate phrasing would be it's a roommate pairing so two students are able to form a room selection group. OK, two students conform this group and you form it within your my BGSU account within your housing application and basically what this does is it links you two together. You're seen as a pair within the housing system.
Connor Kirkner
09:23:42 AM
This is random but do we need to send mid-year transcripts?
And you both will get the same room selection date and time when those time slots roll out in June. OK, so you'll both have the exact same date and time. This allows you to go into the housing system at the same time together as you scout out a room with two open beds. This also allows one of the persons within the room selection group to place both students into an open room so it just makes the process a lot easier. Alot more doable to ensure that you and your new bestie can live with each other.

Hey Connor, Erica and Sarah will tackle this question live
Jaden Keirn
09:24:14 AM
If I have been offered a scholarship is there a deadline where I have to commit to BG and not lose the scholarship
In a room. OK, so that is what a room selection group is now what? How to form one and how to accept. It's all through your housing application so within your housing application you are able to like search by like BG ID number to be able to find the person you want to form. This room selection group with now that person has to have also made their housing payment so that's important you both have to have paid in order to show up as a potential roommate in the housing system. So you enter in the BG ID for the student you want to room with.

David Johnston

@Jaden, your question is in the queue!
Erica Mills
09:24:48 AM
@Caitlyn - we're kind of answering this now - if you need more info, let us know!
What it should do is push a roommate request to this other person and they accept the roommate request within their housing application within their my BGSU account. So you should see it in there. If you are not seeing that roommate request. If you have not gotten that push, I would say honestly again. You contend the reservoir or honestly just contact the Office of Residence Life. I hate to like I don't want to feel like we're pushing up under their office but basically they use an entirely unique system.
For the housing on campus so that the system that they use it simply isn't something that we have access to an admissions an instead of giving you the run around if you talk with them, they'll be able to absolutely be able to see like, oh, Nope, the push didn't go through or or something like that or ope that soon it didn't pay. That's why you can't find them. You know those kind of ends and outs, but it all should be happening right within your housing application.
Alright, perfect and I also dropped a link in the chat because I know hearing this from us live is really helpful and great, but if you need to refer back to something or you know we know that in a few hours you might need to go back and remember what we just shared with you. So the link that I just dropped about the roommate selection groups really great breakdown so that you can reference that later if you're trying to navigate that a little bit. So alright next is.

I had read that there is a waitlist for centennial if you do not get in on your room selection day. Do you know when you would know if you got in to centennial from the waitlist?
The topic of preferencing rooms selecting rooms, and I think we just got one. A new question from honor that's kind of on that topic, so I'll just kind of read read the questions here. So Charlize asked, how do we tell BGR preferences of buildings for housing? And then let's Scroll down here on I asked, I read that there's a wait list for Centennial. If you do not get in on your room selection day, do you know when you would know if you got into Celente Centennial from the wait list so?
Let's talk about picking a room and what that what that process looks like.
Absolutely will start there. So like I said, when you make your housing payment on June 2nd sometime after three PM, you're going to get an email to your BGSU email that tells you what your exact room selection date and time is. So like I said, the dates are from June 7th to 10th. The time slots will be between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM OK. Annual get assigned there so you know Erica here is your email. You are going to be able to pick your room.
June 7th at 4:00 PM. Like it's going to be precisely. And what will happen is during your time slot, you go back into your housing application the same way you have been this entire time. Go back into your my BGSU account. Go back to your housing application, log back in. When it's your turn to pick a room, suddenly those greyed out bubbles are going to be live an you can continue through with the process. You will be able to see a list of the residence halls on campus. You can click through each one and see what rooms are available.
So you do not need to give us any sort of preferences, any rankings you do not need to tell BGSU anything about your favorite residence Hall. Your least favorite does not matter to us. OK, what you need to do is mentale kind of have your top three or so residence halls in mind. OK, because when you get into the housing application again, you'll be able to go to the halls you're interested in, see what rooms are available. Imagine it like you're picking a seat at a concert or picking a seat in the airplane. Whatever is open.
David Shuppert
09:28:28 AM
Haven't been able to visit campus yet, can we schedule and be able to request a private tour for me and my family because of covid?
When it's your turn to pick is free game. If it's full and it's already taken offline, then you've gotta move on to your second choice or your third choice, etc. Quick tip, during housing selection process, make sure you are following BGSU residence life. I think they do it. They do not Facebook and Twitter I think. But follow BGSU residence life social media. They will live post as residence halls fill. So that way you know like going in like alright, there wasn't already.
Jeff Hazy
09:28:51 AM
Do I get to live in Centennial or Founders Hall if was admitted to the Honors College?
Rules I gotta take that off, so on and so forth. So just know that that's also going to happen. But again, there's no ranking. There is no preference is whatever is open when it's your turn to pick, you have the ability to pick from and then on about the wait list. You're correct, so typically we do have a wait list for Centennial for students who want to be able to join that wait list to see if a space opens up that will take place this summer. So I would guess that wait list will probably start in about late June.
Our early July, and typically it truly is what it sounds like. It's a running list, so students want to be put on the wait list. They can sign up for the wait list. You will receive a call from the Office of Residence Life to let you know that a bed has opened up and you then have 24 hours to accept if you want to be able to have that room on campus. If you don't hear back from you within a day, they are moving on to the next person on the list. So keep an eye out for four 19372. If it starts with those 6 digits.
Ana Mathews
09:29:35 AM
okay thank you so much!
Its BGSU that's my other piece of advice. So there well yeah, so that's simply how it happened so I unfortunately can't fully answer your question of how when will you know it depends. Kind of where you are in the wait list and if rooms do open up and how quickly they open up. But again I would keep an eye out for that wait list at the end of June early July and you can join it from there.
Yeah, I'd like to offer some advice to Anne Anne real quick on the topic of the Centennial wait list. There is a chance that when you are offered the spot from the wait list, it's just you.
So if you had a roommate, BFF your for best friend from high school, there is a chance that if you do the wait list, you're going to get to a point where you're going to have to decide. Is it more important to me to live in Centennial or more important for me to live with my selected roommate? And that's up to you. Like for some people living in their specific Hall is number one priority. They know that they'll be able to figure it out with whoever their roommate is. And for others, roommate is the most important thing. So it's really important to kind of reflect on that. Be mindful of.
Like what's the most important thing for you? What's the most important thing for you is probably way different from somebody else, so don't let you know their their vibe, their energy kind of let you know, like you gotta think about it, a certain way, like it's all on you. It's what you're comfortable with. So do keep in mind that the Centennial spots to open up up like one at a time. So even if you and a person have been planning to be roommates for a whole year, you might have to make that decision. So keep that in mind when you're approaching the wait list. The other thing that I would say you know?
And Sarah has two. We've been in admissions for many, many years now, and every year there's a lot of of of, like emotions and stress tide to living on campus, which residence Hall, and you know, the Facebook page, that page that we shared with you is really wonderful, and you're going to get great information. But you might start seeing trends where everybody is saying I'm going to live in McDonald. I'm going to live in McDonald, McDonald, and you might start thinking like, oh, I was going to live in cold is. Does this mean that like Kohl's, not a good haul?
That is not the like. Try to just keep in mind that everybody is doing this their own way, their own, their own experience and it's OK if your your thing that you're excited about a little different from somebody else is so. Try not to get too stressed out about the housing thing. Sarah is example of housing picking your room is like picking a seat at a concert. Here's the thing. Sometimes you get seated concert and it's not the front row and maybe it's the balcony, but you still get to go to that concert, right? You still get a ticket.
And you're still going to have a really good time at that concert, and that is the case with residence life too. So you might not get your first pick for Residence Hall, but you're still going to get to live on campus and have a really great experience. So try to keep that little that little gem in your mind when you're going through the process, 'cause it can be a little bit stressful.
Bryce Carter
09:32:35 AM
How and when can I sign up for the centennial wait list?
And just to add on to that, like Erica kind of mentioned, like yes, a lot of emotions, a lot of feelings get into housing and I understand that where you lay your head at night is important and valuable. It is where you're laying your head at night. There are so many things about your college experience from the organizations to going to sporting events to the activities taking place throughout campus. Being able to enjoy lunch and dinner and in the dining halls and get food delivered to you by a little sweet robot like.
Those I guarantee you like. Those are the memories like those are the things that like again make that experience you will be using your room certainly to be able to shower and sleep and it might be your chosen place to study, but other than that you are going to be out and about so frequently. Visiting other friends, you know, hanging out in their room like it's it's just one piece of the puzzle. So great advice.
Yeah, and you're I mean, you're a senior year and the summer before college is an exciting time with lots of changes. And like you've got so much going on. I just don't want the rooming reslife process to be something that adds stress for you, so trying to try to, you know well you'll be gone. be OK, we're going to take care of you so there's a couple more real specific residence life questions to answer really quick here. Jeff asked, do I get to live in Centennial or Founders Hall?
If I was admitted to the Honors College.
David Johnston
09:34:13 AM
Sarah mentioned a robot delivering your food! Did that spark a question? Learn more about the Starship Delivery Robots on our campus here: https://www.bgsu.edu/news/2020/11/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-starship-robot.html
So Jeff, if you have been admitted into the Honors College, or if you have applied and are getting reviewed from college, the Honors College application is open until March 1st. For anybody who is still considering just want to put that quick plug you if you want to live in the honors learning Community, you can. You do not have to live in the honors learning community as an honor student, but it is an option. The Honors learning community is housed in Founders Hall, so Jeff. Basically to answer your question, if you are in the honors.
If your minute into honors, if you enroll in the honors learning Community and get a spot within the Honors learning Community because it does fill, I will say that the owners learning Community is one of the most popular ones. Then you do have the opportunity to live in Founders Hall, but it is all tide to that honors. Learning community is not tide necessarily to being an honor student. You know what I mean? Like just being admitted into honors is not your Golden ticket to getting a room in Founders or a room in Centennial. That's not the case. You would need to apply for the honors or any community.
If you get a spot in the honors learning community that is housed in Founders.
Perfect, OK, an Bryce asked how and when can I sign up for the Centennial wait list, so that's going to really, I don't know if we have a specific date for when you can sign up so Bryce, it really depends so we may have some weird random year where there isn't a need for a wait list like for whatever reason, Centennial.
There's plenty of space that probably won't happen, but because of how different the selection process is, every year the wait list process and the dates, and when you sign up, it's going to vary. The most important thing you can do is keep an eye on your email and your that BGSU class of 2025 Facebook page and residence life due to residence life even has a Facebook page and I this is a hot tip. Most people don't realize this during first year residence life selection.
They are posting like hourly updates the whole time so you can go in there and see like as of 6:00 PM on Tuesday may what Arjun whatever there are X amount of rooms left in these spaces. These these halls. So that's a really great place to go and then they will also post updates when they're ready to open up the wait list process. So highly recommend that you connect with us there. OK, so off the topic of residence life. Connor, I promise we did not miss your.
Then this is random, but do we need to send midyear transcripts?
Good question. That's a really good question. That random at all. You are not required to send midyear transcripts, so for most students we of course review your official high school transcript through the end of your junior year as we review for admission to BGSU. What we will need transcript wise is your final high school transcript that shows your graduation date. That is very important. You are not able to receive.
Erica Mills
09:37:05 AM
LAST CALL FOR QUESTIONS!!
Um, for like your financial aid will not disperse to your account if we do not have proof that you have graduated, so that is piece #1 final high school transcript and I'll also take a quick moment here to mention that if you have taken CCP dual enrollment, if you are taking college courses concurrently while enrolled in high school, we will also want to send us an official college transcript from the college or University. Those courses are through. If you are taking college courses through three universities.
That's three college transcripts. Even if your high school transcript shows that you were taking, you know college comp. 101 through Lorain County Community College, Owens Community College, Tri C Sinclair, whatever. Even if your high school transcript shows it, you will not receive official BGSU credit for that course. If you do not send an official college transcript. So I just want to know where the topic of transcripts may as well say it now. I've got 30 of you in here, so that's the kind we need to know.
Final high school transcript. Official college transcripts. If you are taking any college courses, that's what we'll need.
Alright, perfect, alright Jayden asked Gina promise we didn't miss you either. Reslife just always brings up so many questions so we wanted to stay on topic there. So Jayden ask about scholarships. Jade and I want to make sure you're still here.
Looks like you are great. Perfect, wonderful Jane. As if I've been offered a scholarship is their deadline where I have to commit to BG and not lose the scholarship. So my first answer off the bat for Jayden is that it's going to depend on which scholarship you're talking about. There are like so many but I think we can answer in terms of like the general scholarship. Sarah Ann and Jayden. Just keep in mind if you want to drop in the chat which scholarship you're talking about, that will help us answer you a little more specifically.
But, um, Sarah, do you want to speak on the general freshman scholarship?
Jaden Keirn
09:39:04 AM
University freshmen academic scholarship
Erica Mills
09:39:16 AM
@Jaden - perfect!! That's what Sarah's talking about now :)
Yep, absolutely so for the general freshman scholarships. Those merit awards that we do in the office admissions. Your University freshman academic scholarship. Or for an out of state student. Your BG success scholarship. Those two scholarships. Those are yours until you tell us you are not coming. So for example, even if you end up committing to BGSU on August 1, you know. Whatever the reason. Maybe if you end up going to be then you still get those scholarships. OK, so there is no firm deadline.
For those scholarships, they again they're yours until you tell us that BG issues, not. You're right, fit and then exactly Erica said there are some other scholarships that do have a different commitment deadline. You'll know you will receive emails of information about those those scholarships. You will be contacted by those scholarship offices. If you have not like you will know. So I'm very confident that any of those bigger scholarships that do require a commitment. You'll be notified. But for the general.
Dollar ships that you've been given based on your merit based on GPA and or test score. Again, there's no firm from deadline, but keep in mind that the deadline we suggest is June 1.

Here you go, David! https://admissions.bgsu.edu/portal/campus_visit
OK, perfect, now we're getting close to 10:45, so this is going to be our last question. And then we'll wrap up here. I know some of you might be attending another session at 11. We want to make sure you got a little break before you get over there. So David asked, I haven't been able to visit campus yet. Can we schedule and be able to request a private tour for me and my family because of Covid? So David, I am so excited you ask that question because my team actually handles all the visits so I can give you some great information. My colleague David who shares your name.
Is going to drop a link. Anybody who's here on this event can use this so when it comes to in person visits, we are open to in person visits. Right now we are attempting to do one on one campus tours Monday through Thursday. So if you choose a tour from that link that David other, David BG David just posted, you're going to want to look at Monday through Thursday. In on those days we will do our best and will have a will likely be able to provide A1 on one campus tour words just you. Anna Campus tour guide.
On Fridays and Saturdays, you will almost almost certainly be paired with another family. So if you are really interested in that, like one on one, which I completely understand, you're going to want to look at the Monday through Thursday dates. They're not as busy, and so we're able to accommodate the one on one tours a little bit easier. The weekends are very, very busy, and so we do have to double up on the weekend, so I would recommend if you are most interested in.
Just more like 1 on 1/2 or you're going to look at those week weekday dates when it comes to our campus tours, I just want to add a couple of things. The link that David just sent you will have anything we have available open for you to pick from those type the tours because they are one on one. They're extremely extremely limited and they feel very quickly. So if there is a specific date you're looking for and it's full, we're going to ask that you try to find a different date because we just want to make sure that we're.
Hosting visitors as safely as possible, and that does mean that we have to limit them pretty pretty well. The other thing I want to note, the campus tour is going to take you all around campus, but as you can imagine in covid times, we're not going into residence halls. Are campus tours do not include residence Hall visits just because we want to make sure that we're keeping our current student communities safe and you safe as well, so that will probably be something that you should be able to do once our spring semester has wrapped up, probably.
Late late late spring like May, June and then over the summer. So for now, residents life or residence halls will not be part of that campus tour, so we hope that you will consider visiting us on campus. But we are offering lots of virtual options because we know that's kind of tricky right now. So alright, so I think that that kind of covers it. Sarah, I'm going to go ahead and wrap up here before I do, Sir, do you have anything you want to leave the leave the group with?

I don't think so. I feel like we we covered it all, so I think you know in general just my last couple of items. Please take advantage of all the offerings we have this weekend. I know we keep harping on all these different webinars and I know you might be tired of screen time and things like that, but we're doing our absolute best to provide you the most valuable information that we can. I know again, we've got a plethora going on throughout the weekend, so if you see a webinar that you really want to go to, but the time conflicts, things like that.
Know that we will be uploading recordings as we can for these webinars throughout the weekend as well, and so that way if you want to be able to refer back to it and TuneIn later but know that between student life, financial aid, residence life, dining on campus.

Thank you for all this information. It was very helpful.
Transitioning to college sessions with your Dean of your academic college, I mean, like Erica mentioned, there's like 40 webinars going on throughout these next few days, so take advantage. Great way to get your questions answered and then like I said, you know when you are ready. We are here when you are ready to commit to BGSU. We are excited. We are ready to help you. The commitment process is very very fun. I know we posted that quick commit link earlier in the chat so just know you can always refer back to that.

Easy web page. Do we were reminded of what your commitment steps are. Depending if you're living on campus or if you're commuting to on campus, and I'll give you a little inside, scoop that if you follow official BGSU on Instagram, you might be able to see some of the fun things that come along with being a committed BGSU student. So check out Bee Gees Instagram check out their stories. We're so excited to have students who are deciding on BGSU do when it's do it, when it's right for you.

Thank you so much Sarah. I wanted to let you guys know one more thing. We have two events coming up right at 11:00 AM. I'm trying to put them in the chat but they don't seem to be working so I might have my colleague David do that so we have a session all about transferring credit to BGSU at 11:00 AM, which I guess I don't know which time zone you're in, but it's in 15 minutes and then that one is going to be perfect. If you have CCP credit or college credit that you're thinking about transfer, hoping to transfer to.

What scholarships are available to international freshman
BGSU when you are here that will kind of provide you with resources for how to do that, and then the other one that we have at 11:00 AM is our first of the transition to college life presentation. If you have family members or parents who are eager to connect with BGSU as well, that's a great great event for you to attend with them. So both of those are coming up here in 15 minutes. So if you are already like comfy, cozy, ready to keep attending things, we're here for you. And that's what we've got up.
